XC race today. I originally put my name down for the club to make up numbers as there were loads doing it. I've picked up a cold and feel like absolute shite now, but several others have pulled out for whatever reason. I've decided to go ahead and "race" even though I'm far from XC race git (even without a cold) but I'm more conscious of the fact that I am doing the half marathon next weekend and cannot afford to miss many miles/days this week. Hopefully I'll just get through it as a training run as planned. Physio booked for a sports massage tomorrow then. Literally took me 5 minutes to work out what XC meant.Let me know how you get on. Sounds tough with a cold. I was in the asthma group for XC at school even though I didn't have asthma. True story. Iβll bet I can guess what you thought the C stood for! π

I placed #4 in our club and only 4 count so I am beyond happy with that as I really was only hoping for a good training run today. Lots of our guys are inured though so I would have placed 6th or 7th in the club had everyone been there. Buzzing. Pizza and ice cream time.

Struck down with some bacterial virus since Monday, so I'm the whole week off work! No half marathon this weekend... Ah well, still glad I ran last sunday. This week I'll need to up yoga to keep active, but I am pretty banged up with this poxy thing. At least it's not covid.

In other (MJ related) health news, I think I've convinced myself I have vitiligo. God knows what's going on.

Still not right, so will be taking the entire week off. Not ideal for Athens. I was never training for a time, but losing this week will just add to the challenge. Will be looking for Athena's owl to do more than inspire me. Will need him to fly me part of the way! Oh I registered for my first ultra-marathon in April. 39.3 miles. In the mountains of Connemara. www.mapmyrun.com/routes/view/3267223035k to 38k will be absolute hell. The swift and sudden change from excitement to dread after receiving the confirmation email was cinematic. Although I did book it because I was underwhelmed by the challenge I set myself of completing Athens. I've done so many marathons that I actually know if I had to do a marathon next week I'd finish it, in a semi decent time with minimal training. An ultra seemed like a good way to test my metal and to properly scare me. Because I'm scared now, but excited! I do wish I wasn't sick right now though. But it helps that I've no appetite so at least my weight is ok.

Hit the wall during a 20+ miler today π€£ My own fault, only left out one banana. Gorgeous run but christ I honestly was delirious and wanting to fall asleep descending the mountain the second time. All part of the fun though. I'm in so much pain right now

Ah Im grand thanks. recovery run at some stage tomorrow. I wouldnt try ANYTHING you havent eaten before a training run/race. I stick with poached eggs/toast or a variant. You can usually get eggs in any hotel Ive stayed in but yeah eggs are my #1 and I usually bring a kellogs breakfast bake/bar for 90 mins before the start. Weetabix never worked for me unfortunatly, even though I love them. Hate porridge unfortunately. Its yock.

That's bollocks, especially as I know UK events are far from cheap? Did my last 20 miler yesterday. Sweet Jesus I'm in bits Looks like my run from Marathon to Athens could have the same ending for me as it did Pheidippides. (spoiler, he died). Honestly, I've done fuck all training for this, which is making it a little more exciting. A few weeks ago I could have coasted a 3.30/3.40 marathon but yesterday after several weeks of doing shag all the 20 miler did hit hard (regardless of the fact I'm still including the mountain in my long runs). This will be my first marathon since my very first one that I'm severely unprepared for but I'm getting an absolute thrill out of the idea of heading out and doing 26.2 without the proper preparation. Feels like a completely different challenge. I've done so many at "easy" pace that the idea of training for this just faded over time. This will basically be my first training run for the ultra marathon in April but I couldn't give a toss how fast or well I do. Athens has been on my list for so long so I just can't wait to see all the gods and stuff who I assume appear throughout the race. Surely? Also, I'm trying to convince my girlfriend that a trip to Lewa in South Africa would be amazing as I came across this picture a few weeks ago and I can't stop thinking about how it must be the greatest race on the planet. That's a giraffe.
