I doubt anyone is getting any money back, unfortunately. I've kinda just accepted this isn't a thing that is going to happen now. Oh that money is gone, but I was checking earlier and I think Taj is in breach of a few of GoFundMe's rules. However, it takes a significant amount of people to file a complaint/make a claim for a refund for anything to happen. I doubt it will happen, but he needs to be held accountable. His family have made much more than anyone that donated and this is an awful look for him. I definitely agree. I'm just forgetting about it now though as nothing is gonna get done.

Exactly (re Sylvia). I don't know why this is a hard concept for some fans.

Whelp this thread is going to age terribly if Taj delivers an amazing docu-series.

Whelp this thread is going to age terribly if Taj delivers an amazing docu-series. I certainly hope he will prove us wrong. I donated him $250, I definitely want it to be amazing and don't want him to fail. But unfortunately the signs aren't great for that and his lack of transparency and proper communication doesn't build trust.

Whelp this thread is going to age terribly if Taj delivers an amazing docu-series. I don't necessarily think so. The main issue for most posters here is a. The changing of the goal posts after the bulk of money was received (eg. turning the piece into an apparent fluff piece) and b. the complete lack of updates with substance. I think it's highly unlikely that he will deliver anything close to amazing if I'm honest, but if he did I'd obviously be pleasantly surprised and will give him is dues. But Halloween is fast approaching so his window for work is slim for the remainder of the year.

I can't see any realistic way how he can live up to his promise of having his film out by the end of this year. For that he already should have finished it and sold it to a broadcaster. We should be at a point where promotion is starting. I can't see any signs of any of that going on, I don't even think he's anything near having a finished product, let alone having sold it to a broadcaster. So I think the only way that goal can be achieved now if it's going to be some hastily thrown together, amateurish, YouTube fan video level stuff, which is not what fans donated their money for.

Whelp this thread is going to age terribly if Taj delivers an amazing docu-series. Nah, all the things we're complaining about will still be true even if that does happen.

Whelp this thread is going to age terribly if Taj delivers an amazing docu-series. We don’t want to prove our argument right, we want Taj to prove it wrong. It’s certainly nothing personal but like any project where people donate/invest they eventually want to see a return. It’s now evolved into an 11 episode docu series. Ultimately we all want MJ vindicated.

Whelp this thread is going to age terribly if Taj delivers an amazing docu-series. Does it not worry you that Taj announced some he claimed were involved in his project yet had not actually spoken to them about it? Respect77 is one such person. That was a sign early on Taj wasn't handling all of it in as professional a manner as possible. And so here we are with a list of legitimate concerns about the progress of it. All very valid.

I didn't know he had pivoted to the extent the IMDB page suggests. Seems like it went from "hard-hitting factual doco about the allegations" to "doco about the allegations but also about who MJ was as a person" to "doco about who MJ was as a person." I remember him initially saying he felt he needed to show people who MJ was in order for them to fully dismiss the allegations, but now the means seem to have become the end.
I went back to his last podcast appearance on the MJCast at the end of last year. He not only says that he wants to release it in 2023 ("One of the things that was important and still is for me is the 2023 release of it. That's a deadline that I don't wanna miss.") but also that he's comfortable that he will ("Obviously I don't wanna rush anything but I also feel comfortable with where I'm at right now in terms of making that a reality"). When asked whether he can give an update as to how many interviews he's done or how far along he is in the process he says he "can but I won't ... Only because I think they'll gauge whatever I say as that staple of where I'm at and where I should be." The latter sounds to me like he'd not done much yet, or at least has not conducted many interviews. His reason for not sharing much is not very reassuring either imo: "Why I'm so tight-lipped and secretive is because I feel like when I say certain things, other people pick up on it and they kinda beat me to it and they'll do something that I said I was going to do."
They also discuss the role of Charles Thomson, who's involved in scripting the doco. We've known he's involved for years already, as he's previously discussed traveling to LA and working on things with Taj (among other things visiting Hamid, going through materials found in MJ's bedroom in Carolwood - a really interesting episode of the MJCast) in 2019. However, what jumped out at me is that after thanking Taj for some kind words he says "looking forward to working with you." Maybe I'm reading too much into that, but it obviously makes it sound like at least he hasn't properly started working on it yet and that not much has happened since 2019.
I'm still rooting for him to prove me completely wrong, I have no doubt that he wants to do what's best for his uncle and although it really deviates from the original premise, I also like his idea of telling MJ's story through archival footage - not showing enough of MJ himself has been one of my main frustrations with anything the Estate does. That said, even if it does turn out to be brilliant, I will still think he really botched the communication with his backers.

Whelp this thread is going to age terribly if Taj delivers an amazing docu-series. I file things like this under "I would love to be wrong". So if this thread does age poorly, that's great! I don't think it will though

I'm not exactly sure how saying how many interviews he's shot so far could harm him or give too much away. Jin telling us he's shot 70 hours of interviews only makes me more excited and more hopeful for his project. So why can't Taj give such information about his progress? To me Taj just sounds like he hasn't done much substantial, so he's hiding behind these lame excuses as to why he's not telling us anything.

There’s an interesting conversation on The MJCast Season 9 Episode 2: Just Me and Two Charlies from around 1:09:00 discussing a recent blow up on Twitter involving Taj and others. It’s given me a certain amount of pause for thought. It’s worth listening to and considering. I think the questions were asking here are fair and honest but I don’t want to become vindictive and part of a mob. Also I don’t want to lose any optimism in this project being realised. There’s enough negativity in this fandom without creating more. As I said, were asking fair questions here and they’re completely justified, and I’m only speaking for myself, but I’m going to be a little more patient on this and not get swept up in the heat of the moment. www.themjcast.com/155-just-me-and-two-charlies/#comments

I have been patient for long and deliberately refrained from tweeting about my concerns re. this because I know my account is followed by many fans and I don't want to create hostility or negativity around Taj. But it's increasingly more and more difficult to keep up that good will and optimism around him and this project. I won't call people asking what's happening to their money "a mob". Of course, I don't condone being abusive to him, but I think at this point his lack of transparency and proper communication make even harsher tones a bit understandable. Actually if this was anyone else the fandom wouldn't be this patient. He should know that rather than being offended and sensitive. Instead of going into a back and forth with Ilia maybe he could have posted a quick update on where he stands with the project to assure people that things are going in the right direction. But he hasn't done it ever since. And maybe I missed some parts of that conversation between Ilia and Taj, but what I saw - and what Taj replied to - I don't think was abusive. Ilia has deleted it now, but Taj's above tweet was a reply to a tweet by Ilia where he said something along the lines "I'm only here for Michael and Janet. I don't care about the rest of the family." And this is what Taj decided to take offense with, which I actually found odd. And I think Taj's reply was bit unfortunate too. Ilia rightly pointed out that he shouldn't expect gratitude from strangers for defending his own uncle. As if he's doing a favor to us or something. Now, I don't know what preceded this, whether Ilia tweeted offensive stuff before this, but this particular tweet that Taj replied to wasn't abusive. Guess what, I'm only here for MJ too (not even Janet in my case). I'm not star struck by Taj or the rest of the family. PS: Oh, I'm sorry, Ilia hasn't deleted the tweet. So this was what Taj replied to. And this was the "abusive" tweet he retweeted before, which prompted the whole discussion. Might be offensive but can anyone really tell if it's far off the mark at this point? Maybe it would help if Taj was more transparent...

But he hasn't done it ever since. I’m speaking for me Respect. Not you, not anyone else. That’s very clear from what I said. And I never called people who are asking what happened to their money a mob! I’m referring to what I’d just listened to on The MJCast. I also put in money here and I’m also concerned to a certain degree.
