Absolutely nothing! In fact, the opposite! It further cements MJ and positions him above everyone including Dylan and Springsteen! And they’re still alive! Or perhaps more importantly Elvis and The Beatles. In my eyes it sets Jackson right on top of the immortals. Exactly! If half of Michael's catalog is worth $1.2 billion....the whole thing is worth twice that. Michael is right at the very top by a very large margin! Nobody comes close. And the man's life was marred by a lot of shit thrown at him for having the intelligence he did to become SO successful! He's not the King Of Pop. No, he's simply The King! According to the Billboard article it's the whole catalog that's worth 1.2-1.5 billion, not half. They say the half is going to be sold for over $600 million. It's still the biggest money anyone paid out for a music catalog. There is a deal in the finishing stages with Queen's catalog that comes close (their whole catalog being sold for 1.2 billion), but according to the Billboard article it contains more than the MJ deal: "In what could be the largest valuation ever of a musician’s music assets, Sony Music Group has closed an agreement to buy half of Michael Jackson‘s publishing and recorded masters catalog in a deal that sources say valued those music assets somewhere above $1.2 billion. Other sources have suggested it might be as much as $1.5 billion. At those valuations, Sony will pay at least $600 million for its stake of the legendary rights. That means that the Jackson deal, which closed late last year, is at a bigger valuation than the $1.2 billion that Queen is currently seeking. And whereas the Queen valuation includes, sources say, royalties from income streams beyond the masters and publishing, including from the Freddie Mercury biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody, and theatrical productions using Queen’s music, Sony’s deal with the Michael Jackson estate does not include royalties from the Broadway play and other theatrical productions featuring Jackson’s music."

From what I understand $1.2 to $1.5 billion is the total valuation of the catalogue and Sony bought a 50% stake in it so they paid around $600-750 million. Still a lot of money, more than any other artist. I think they will get their money's worth. Michael's popularity is steadily growing. I feel a shift in the way people talk about him. Just in the past few weeks on Instagram I saw Phil Colins, the Beegees, Lionel Richie, David Foster and Netflix post about MJ and the comments were overwhelmingly positive. If the biopic does well, it could be another major boost to his career. I'm trying not to be too optimistic because as MJ fans we've been burnt so many times, but still. I hope Dan Reed, Wade and Safechuck are seething. Sorry, I didn't see this. So yes. It's the whole catalog valued at $1.2-$1.5 billion.

I’m not sure why but I’m very excited by this news. The fact that MJ is still the biggest artist on earth despite what he’s been through is absolutely mind blowing. I’m never going to worry for his legacy ever again. Ultimately greatness will prevail.

And you can't touch me, 'cause I'm untouchable And I know you hate it, and you can't take it You'll never break me 'cause I'm unbreakable
You can try to stop me, but it won't do a thing
No matter what you do, I'm still gonna be here
Through all your lies and silly games
I'ma still remain the same, I'm unbreakable

No problem! Have to say I'm not surprised she's tried doing that with you too. Did it to me last year an' all. I’m sorry to hear that NatureCriminal7896 has targeted you in this way also. It’s sad to know that an anti semitic racist is allowed to bully people on here. Hope you’re ok. Oh, I'm fine - not a scratch! I've had far worse in life than that! 🙈 It's like what Michael said, "I'm just wondering why you think that you can get to me with anything"! Most here pretty much ignore Nature anyway.

Since he's not here physically, I guess I don't care what happens to his catalog. From a selfish standpoint, I just hope someone reissues things like HIStory, BotDF and Invincible on vinyl.

That doesn't seem like a lot compared to the other sales but the article mentions that Stewart wrote fewer of his own songs. By the way, the article links to another article about the sale of MJ's catalogue and it says this: I thought Thriller was the undisputed best-selling album of all time?

By the way, the article links to another article about the sale of MJ's catalogue and it says this: I thought Thriller was the undisputed best-selling album of all time? It IS the biggest selling album of all time globally and by a huge margin. It's just that American journalists often like to pretend the US is the only country in the world and, to dispute Thriller's status, they use the fact that the Eagles' Greatest Hits album has been recently certified more than Thriller by the American recording association RIAA (under pretty suspicious circumstances because the receipts just don't seem to back up that certification). BTW, this has nothing to do with streaming. The Eagles' album isn't in the same ballpark as Thriller when it comes to streaming. It has to do with a claim that Eagles' record label pulled an extra 8 million claim out of nothing, no one has ever seen the receipts (Nielsen Soundscan data doesn't back up this claim) and RIAA just accepted it while they refuse to be transparent about the data on which they base this certification. It's all very fishy and I personally think it's a fraud. Since this happened in 2018, I wonder if RIAA got a head up on the upcoming LN and wanted to enthrone Thriller its flagship up until that point. Here we had a thread about this: mymjjforum.boards.net/thread/973/thriller-longer-biggest-selling-albumEven Billboard had an article about it, wondering about where this all came from. I quote that article on this page of the thread: mymjjforum.boards.net/thread/973/thriller-longer-biggest-selling-album?page=7But RIAA manipulation aside, even with that, Thriller is clearly still the best selling album of all time globally and by a HUGE margin. With streaming included: chartmasters.org/top-album/On pure sales: chartmasters.org/top-album-pure-sales/

It even mentions the controversy on the Wiki page of the Eagles album: Of course global sales are more important anyway but the American media don't care about that.
