I don't think Sheila E. checked her ego at the door, I guess other performers couldn't have either but she made it quite obvious and petty IMO.
Even if she felt disrespected, I don't think she was, people involved were trying to get as many famous acts as possible and the solos were for the bigger stars. To me she missed the bigger picture being about a charity song to help to relief the famine in Ethiopia.

Sheila e is actually pretty nice, I know somebody who knows her. She was justified in feeling used cause of Prince’s popularity. It’s not like she blamed Michael for it, more like the industry politics, and he ended up on a seperate track on the single anyways.

To be honest, Sheila E should be grateful just to have been a part of it, considering that most other people there were much bigger stars than she was. At the time she had one #28 album (written by Prince) and that's it.

I’d love if Sony put The Ultimate Collection on Spotify and other streaming services.

Yes they had more sales than her obviously, but that doesn’t make her less relevant. James brown never had a number one single for instance, does they take away from the quality of his music?

I think the point of USA For Africa was to bring the biggest celebrities in music together for a good cause. It makes no sense to give Sheila E. a solo when Tina Turner and Cyndi Lauper are right there.

Maybe you’re too young to remember that? Latoya was in it too, and she has no hits!

But La Toya wasn't entitled for a solo, respect and Linda are right, she may have been able to make a name and a career for herself now but back then she was nowhere near as big as most of the USA for Africa lineup.

I'm not talking about #1s and Sheila E is not James Brown by any measure.

It's how an artist knew they were popular and had their own clout or lack of. You're looking at history backwards as Sheila wasn't at the time how she's perceived by some today. 🤔
