You guys are so petty I know. It's great, isn't it? It kinda is I just never knew there was so much hate out there for JT, lol.

I know. It's great, isn't it? It kinda is I just never knew there was so much hate out there for JT, lol. I don't hate the man, I just find him extremely obnoxious, arrogant and overrated. But I wouldn't spit at him in the street or anything. Plus, it's fun to take the piss and he's an easy target on MJ boards, as a lot of us feel the same. And to the JT fans who pipe up that MJ fans feel threatened by him, I would say that's akin to Kim Jong Un feeling threatened by a street criminal. Different leagues people.

I don't get how JT fans think some of us MJ fans feel threatened by him. Michael had more talent and genius in the nail of his pinky toe than what JT will have in his lifetime.

The singles have definitely been underwhelming, it's as if not a lot of effort went into it.

Is this gonna be like one of those situations where you have an extremely homophobic politician who spouts a lot of hate about gay people, only for it to turn out he was actually gay himself all along?

Say Something is quite good. It starts off a bit Kanye and qoes a bit Mumfurd & Sons. I like it though, I love how it builds. It's not groundbreaking but it's more interesting than the second track. Between the 3 I've heard it's a bit of a mixed bag -or do I mean eclectic?-and I'm not sure about the title; Man Of The Woods? Still interested to hear the entire album though. Personally, overall I've enjoyed the 3 preview tracks to some extent.

Well, the album has leaked. Listening to it now. What did you think? It’s good, but not his best work. It’s kinda hard to digest on a first listen, maybe it needs a few more to really “get” it. There were a few immediate standouts, Breeze Off The Pond, Say Something and Montana being the pick of the bunch. The duet with Alicia Keys was a bit underwhelming, I expected more with two big names on the same track. Overall it is very Neptunes-heavy and I kind of wish he had done more than just a handful of tracks with Timbaland, as I always felt he did his best work with him.

Am a bit ashamed to admit I quite like that Say Something song, despite the silly lyrics. That guy he's duetting with totally outsings him though, which is kind of embarrassing on your own song.

The album has been pretty unanimously trashed by critics. I would post an example but there's too many to choose from.

The album has been pretty unanimously trashed by critics. I would post an example but there's too many to choose from. Unanimously trashed? Not really, it’s sitting at 57/100 on Metacritic which indicates it’s average rating is pretty mixed. I haven’t read critic reviews much but reading fan reviews it seems all over the place. That Pitchfork review is scathing though. I listened to bits here and there yesterday, I’m pretty eh about it tbh. It’s not as good as FutureSex/LoveSounds, The 20/20 Experience that’s for sure (or Justified apparently, but I’ve only heard a few songs off there). Certainly the singles on those albums were better.

Justin Timberlake's new album is not exactly a slam dunk. MATTHEW EMMONS-USA TODAY
Justin Timberlake: The best critic slams of 'Man of the Woods'
Pour one out for Justin Timberlake's new album, Man of the Woods? Early reviews were less than kind to the pop star's latest Flannel-clad venture. Here's a look at what the critics had to say.
USA TODAY's Maeve McDermott said Timberlake's new album signals his sound has gone stale.
"As Timberlake gears up for his Super Bowl halftime show performance on Sunday, it’s telling that his best new songs are purposefully retro. And as he cycles through his greatest hits during Sunday’s set, it’ll be a reminder of a time when Timberlake was among the most exciting names in pop, an era that, from the sounds of Man of the Woods, has since passed."
'Esquire' called it "a mess" and "kind of embarrassing."
"Well, I’m here to tell you a little bit of good news: Man of the Woods is not a country album. It’s more like deep-fried Justin Timberlake. It's like stumbling across some awkward campfire party in a clearing in the middle of a forest. It's like eating a handful of poison berries from a bush and finding yourself scared, confused, nauseous, and lost among the foliage ... It’s his infamous denim suit resurrected as music."
Pitchfork was so annoyed they put his entire career on blast.
"It’s remarkable how few ideas are contained within this hour-plus Blue Ridge Mountains mood board of an album. Man of the Woods is a misstep large enough to merit relitigating Justin Timberlake’s status as a pop superstar. How much of his career should we chalk up to fortune, privilege, and an essential malleability?"

Just played through a decent portion of the album. Songs I like... Filthy, Midnight Summer Jam, Morning Light (w/Alicia Keys), Say Something (w/Chris Stapleton), Montana, Breeze Off the Pond. Still prefer The 20/20 Experience and FutureSex/LoveSounds, as I said earlier the singles on them were better. SexyBack, Mirrors, What Goes Around/Comes Around, Cry Me A River, Rock your Body, Take Back The Night are all really great pop songs that latch onto you quickly and refuse to let go, but I feel that there's nothing like that this time around. I feel it might be an album that grows on you though, like I didn't overly care for Filthy or Say Something when I first played them but I like them more now so maybe we'll just have to see how it holds up over time... Given the mixed reception of his fans and critics, maybe this'll be his Invincible?
