Difference is, Adele, Swift and Gaga never piggybacked on the talent of black producers and musicians only to turn around and throw one of their biggest icons under the bus. Not only did Justin refuse to stand up for Janet when she faced unprecedented backlash which her career never truly recovered from, he has also subsequently refused to acknowledge his cowardice and pandering ways and has further added insult to injury by being disrespectful to another huge black icon, only to jump on the bandwagon and lavish tributes and praise on the man once he is dead. He is a hypocrite and he is definitely an example of white privilege at its most blatant and ugly. He has gotten away with it for so long and now people are calling him out on it and I think that's a good thing. Did I read correctly that he threw digs at Prince at one time, in a song or something? He responded to Prince's joke that "sexy never left" with the lines "We missed you on the charts last week Damn, that's right you wasn't there Now if se-sexy never left, then why is everybody on my shi-i-it? Don't hate on me just because you didn't come up with it So if you see us in the club, go on and walk the other way 'Cause our run will never be over, not at least until we say" A few years after that he accepted a lifetime achievement award on Prince's behalf by mockingly imitating his statue by crouching onto his knees. Prince was late to the event having been stuck in traffic, but finally arrived and it took Hugh Grant to point out Prince in the audience and make everyone give him a standing ovation.

Jesus Christ. I'm not getting dragged into this again. Go on Tony. It's the new Invincible. Actually it's not. This one makes me actually angry.
Your post in this thread was the first one I read this morning, and it made me go flaccid.

That's too much information. Before that I was a Man of the Wood. Very good. As much as I am sorry that I had a detrimental effect on your morning glory, it had to be said. Besides, the whole Invincible being better than Bad shtick was getting old. Now I have something else to wind you up with!

Basically says he doesn't see why people are making such a big fuss of what happened, that he only got 10% of the heat and that society is unfairly harsh on ethnic people. Also JT didn't jump on the Prince bandwagon, he's been praising Prince for years before and after that dig, citing him as a major influence on FutureSex/LoveSounds around the time of it's release in 2006. Praised him before and after then until his death.

Unpopular opinion time but meh. The way I see it is that neither of what Prince or JT said to each other was that big of a deal and in my truly honest opinion, people are blowing it out of proportion. It's gotten to the point where I've seen people blow it up so much that I've stopped caring about this whole entire Prince vs. JT thing. It's so fucking petty, from everyone.
See when I see people bringing up that statement, I look at it in the context of what JT has also said about Prince over the years. And when I look at that, it's very obviously a bump in the road because 98% of what he's said about Prince - before and after the incident, before and after Prince's death - has all been positive with praises and mentioning his influence him left, right and centre. Hell just tonight on Jimmy Fallon, you could see him getting legitimately giddy about the whole tribute thing, so it's obvious where he genuinely stands.
Like sure, bring up the statement because it happened, but don't make it out to be that it eradicates everything else he has said or that he's bandwagon'd on Prince. I'd reconsider my position if it was racist or a significant insult, but him rapping about Prince not being on the charts? ... I mean come on, it's all so petty it's just fucking child's play. Who cares, hell did Prince even care?
It's why I'm kind of just over it all. (And TBH, my view isn't even dictated by who I like more musically because I like them both roughly the same. If anything, I have more Prince songs than JT songs in my library).
