Got the LP a few weeks ago. I do jump from Control to Rhythm but how it was ignored above is distasteful. It was just downright offensive and all kinds of wrong. At one point I held the singles from Control and Rhythm as companions to MJ’s Bad and Dangerous. They complemented them so well. I used to get such an MJ fix from Janet. For some reason I've never watched a show from the RN tour.

After it was confirmed Les Moonves' had a major hand in her being blackballed here in the US after the Superbowl, her work has been been getting reappraised by people, which is good because Janet never got her full due over the years
I will say, looking at Twitter, I have been quite surprised at the hostility towards Michael from a lot of her fans. I saw hints of it in the past but some posts on Twitter and a fan forum had me taken aback.
Anyway, she's one of the most successful pop acts in music history and it was BS how she was treated by the press and the music industry after the Superbowl.
7 #1 albums and 30 top 20 singles....an absolute legend imo....and I will always rate her above Madonna lol

Though I love Michael off, I actually play more Janet than mj, cause with him I prefer talking about him and have to be in the mood to play him or else I end up getting down over what he went through

Just discovered this great remix of Black Cat on Spotify (Funky 7"). The reason it's so funky is because Black Cat was written by Jesse Johnson from Prince's band The Time. I believe it's also Jesse who played on the original track as well.

Well I’ve finally cracked the Velvet Rope album! For over 2 decades It did absolutely nothing for me. It bored me to tears. It didn’t click, I didn’t get its greatness at all. But last week amidst a massive Janet revival phase I’m currently sucked into I hit the play button and it sounded alright. Better than I had remembered.
I googled the album, read through the Wikipedia and articles on it to get the lowdown and with the full context of it all and a few more listens it really began to open up to me.
Ten days later and I’m hooked on it and have been listening to it nonstop ever since. It’s incredible how much more you can take from something when you’ve got context lol. My big mistake with this album was from day one I treated to it as a very basic, even frivolous pop album. Wanting my ears to be rewarded instantly with catchy dance pop. My attitude was a bit “if it doesn't grab me instantly then forget about it”. And every time thereafter I had that gripe in the back of my mind. I knew Janet was saying it was this deeply meaningful exploration of sexuality and all these personal issues but I seemed to ignore that and just listened to it at face value and decided it was boring. Well it’s not boring! It’s immense!
I immediately removed the interludes. I’m just not a fan of them and find them pointless. They do nothing for me. But I’m really liking most of the tracks now to a large degree and as an album I’m really enjoying it a lot. Control/Rhythm Nation/Janet/TVR! Superb run!
