You can't mess with Janet's first five albums.
I kinda lost interest after AFY.

I've been listening to Unbreakable a lot lately. The first half of the album really is her strongest work since TVR.

Rhythm Nation Janet Control All For You Unbreakable
I could never get into The Velvet Rope apart from some of the singles. I couldn't stand all the sex stuff by this point and endless interludes, although most consider it a masterpiece I'm just nah about it. All For You was good though, her last really good album until Unbreakable, although I actually enjoy Discipline also. Design Of A Decade was my go-to Janet CD more than anything else.

Janet was her best. Having that in the charts alongside Dangerous and Erotica was too exciting for words back in the day.

Yeah, I don't think TVR is as good as everyone says it is. The opening two songs are fantastic, and I also really like Together Again and Special. But as a whole, it's overly-long, far too many interludes that break up the flow of the album, and too many loungey, down-tempo R&B numbers on the latter half that are just a bit of a snoozefest.
I was glad she ditched the interludes on Unbreakable, which imo, is her tightest album since janet.

Yeah, Velvet Rope was the start of her decline, but it does have 'Got Til It's Gone' on it which is one of her best jams. I love grooving to that one.
And yes, those fucking interludes....they barely worked when you used to listen to CDs from start to finish but when you play them on shuffle it really fucks things up.

I think the Janet. Album is way too long. I can barely make it through the album. I think it had the better songs (If is one of her best songs ever) . But over all I enjoy listening to Velvet Rope a lot more.

And the video is fantastic, probably her best. Tony, you should really give Unbreakable another spin. The second half loses the boil a bit, but the first half is full of great songs. The song After You Fall is probably one of her greatest ever ballads and I can't help but suspect she might be singing about MJ. "Your resilience so brilliant Yeah you stand strong But this pain you feel Never thought that a lie could cut you so deep And now trust for you, has a new meaning Who's gonna care for you After you fall?"
